There are examinations trainees must complete in both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Clinical Radiology Training Program.
The Phase 1 examinations include Anatomy and Applied Imaging Technology (AIT). While the Phase 2 examinations consist of the Pathology Examination, the Clinical Radiology Examinations, made up MCQ Examination and Case Reporting Examination as well as an Objective Structured Clinical Examination in Radiology (OSCER).
All Clinical Radiology Examinations are aligned to the to the Training Program Learning Outcomes, regardless of examination format. Please see RANZCR's new Clinical Radiology Handbook and Learning Outcomes for more information.

Trainee Phase 2 Exam Eligibility Requirements
To apply for the Phase 2 Examinations in Clinical Radiology, trainees in the Clinical Radiology Training Program must:
Trainees who had completed fewer than 24 months accredited training prior to 31 January 2022 OR
who commenced in the training program from February 2022 and onwards
All Phase 2 Written Examinations must be completed successfully before a trainee is eligible to present for the OSCER.

Trainees subject to a Remediation Plan per the College’s ‘Remediation in Training Policy’ are not permitted to sit the Phase 2 Examinations during a remediation plan period. Refer to the Remediation in Training Policy for further information.
International Medical Graduate (IMG) Phase 2 Exam Eligibility Requirements
To apply for the Phase 2 Examinations in Clinical Radiology, IMGs must: be an overseas trained specialist with current medical registration;
IMGs who commenced sitting the Phase 2 examinations from Series 1 2023
IMGs assessed before September 2022, not requiring upskilling before sitting the Phase 2 examinations, must have a valid Specialist Recognition assessment outcome. NZ IMGs must be overseas trained specialists and have gained vocational scope of practice pathways.
IMGs who commenced sitting the Part examinations prior to Series 1 2023

Results of examinations will be emailed to candidates and uploaded to the e-Portfolio System for viewing.
General feedback on the examinations will be provided in the relevant examination report.
The College does not provide personal examination material (which includes any breakdown of marks or feedback on a trainee’s response to specific questions/cases), a copy of the marking criteria, scoresheets or any information on the cases the trainee was unsuccessful within the OSCER.
If you need to withdraw from an exam, you must inform the College in writing.
Trainees/IMGs who have applied for an exam and wish to withdraw are required to submit an application for Consideration of Special Circumstances for withdrawal and determination of remaining exam opportunities (where applicable).
To find out if you meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Consideration of Special Circumstances (CSC), you can view the College policy here. Please ensure you attach supporting documentation and submit your CSC application no later than 5 calendar days after the date of the examination.
If the application is approved, there may be a financial penalty incurred depending on the time frame in which the Applicant has withdrawn from an exam. If you withdraw up to four weeks before the exam, there is no financial penalty. If you withdraw within four weeks of the exam, you will be refunded 50% of the exam fee.
If you fail to attend the exam altogether, you will forfeit the exam fee. For further information, please refer to the College’s Examination Policies.
